At his Asheville, NC-based business No Taste Like Home, Alan Muskat leads clients ranging from corporate groups to families “off the eaten path.” The self-proclaimed philosoforager runs tours in which guests forage for mushrooms and then prepare what they have found at local restaurants and hotels, including Aloft Asheville Downtown.

This spring, Muskat will also be working with The Greenbrier resort in White Sulfur Springs, WV, and Old Edwards Inn and Spa in Highlands, NC, two properties commonly ranked among the best in the country. Some of his tour groups like to help cook a meal with the foraged food once they get to the hotel or restaurant, he says, while others prefer to just hand over their harvest to chefs for professional preparation.

“I find that people of all ages are into foraging,” Muskat says. “It brings them together.”
